My upbringing was quite unconventional.

I didn’t know the depths of our dysfunction until recently. And it stands to reason that substance abuse and personality disorders became my way of life.

Now, I’m not talking laying in the gutter, unable to function, drinking in the morning kind of issues.

We were very functional in our dysfunction.

We narrowly escaped legal issues several times.

Probably narrowly escaped death many times. There were times I knew it, but I wonder how many times we were unaware that the powers that be were taking care of us in our incapacity.

Despite everything. I’m pretty lucky.

As kids, we watched our parents function in their dysfunction and was confused when they expected us to be different.

Do as I say, not as I do, type mentality.

What we learn from our parents.

What we learn from our parents molds us. Even if we don’t like them, their actions and how they live their lives impacts us and the way we think.
